Q. What is Autonect?

Autonect is a connected car platform that provides the driver with assistance if their car develops a fault, breaks down or needs servicing. Journey tracking provides helpful insight into driver behaviour and generates performance scores in the app, which can be shared with friends, family and other drivers via social media. Drivers can also tag journeys as business or private, and export them for mileage and expense tracking.

Q. DOES AUTONECT OPERATE IN MY COUNTRY?

Yes. Autonect works in any country.

Q. IS MY SMARTPHONE COMPATIBLE WITH AUTONECT?

Autonect works with most iOS and Android smartphones. iOS – iPhone 4S, 5, 5C, 5S, 6, 6Plus, 6S & 6S Plus Android – 4.4 KitKat or higher

Q. WHICH CARS ARE COMPATIBLE WITH THE AUTONECT SYSTEM?

Autonect works with almost any petrol car, van or small lorry up to 7.5T manufactured after 2001, and diesel after 2004. An adapter cable is also available that allows Autonect to communicate with vehicles built between 1996 and 2001.

Q. IS AUTONECT EASY TO INSTALL IN MY CAR?

The Autonect ProLink fits into your vehicle’s OBD port, which is normally under the dashboard near to the steering wheel. For full details of where the port is in your particular car, refer to your owner’s handbook or use the finder tool within the app.

Q. HOW DOES AUTONECT WORK?

It is an App and smart ProLink dongle that plugs into the OBD port of a vehicle and uses Bluetooth to communicate with the driver’s smartphone.

Q. DOES AUTONECT CHARGE AN ADDITIONAL MONTHLY DATA-CHARGE?

No. Autonect transmits it’s data via the drivers smartphone when available.

Q. HOW MUCH DATA DOES AUTONECT USE?

For the average driver Autonect uses about 2mb data per calendar month.

Q. HOW DOES AUTONECT AFFECT SMARTPHONE BATTERY LIFE?

The smartphone app uses about the same amount of power as any other typical app, unless the phone screen is kept permanently on.

Q. WHAT ARE THE VOUCHERS CONTAINED IN THE PACK?

There are vouchers to use against servicing, repairs and MOTs at any Halfords Autocentres. The vouchers are worth approx. £100, based on an average annual spend.

Q. IS AUTONECT SECURE?

Yes. Autonect is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and your data is secured using bank-level industry-standard security protection protocols.

Q. WILL IT WORK WITH MY VEHICLE FLEET?

Yes, Autonect will work with any number of vehicles.

Q. WILL AUTONECT WORK ALONGSIDE MANUFACTURERS’ CONNECTED CAR SYSTEMS?

Yes. In fact Autonect provides many additional services which are unlikely to be included in a manufacturer’s system at this time. Furthermore, you will never have to pay an additional data charge to use the Autonect platform.

Q. WHERE IS THE DRIVER AND VEHICLE DATA STORED?

Driver and vehicle data is stored on the Autonect cloud servers.

Q. CAN DRIVERS DOWNLOAD THEIR DATA?

Yes. Data can be downloaded in a variety of formats including CSV and XML, as well as viewed from within the app.

Q. IS THE DRIVER DATA EVER SHARED WITH THIRD-PARTIES?

You can opt to share your data from within the app with a number of third parties so that they are able to provide you with assistance and help when required. Also, we use anonomised data-sets to assist in software development, research and marketing although no personally identifiable information is ever used without permission.

Q. CAN DRIVERS DELETE THEIR DATA?

Consumers have full control over their data and can delete it if they wish. Fleet customers can delete data only from within the Fleet Management Console.

Q. WHO BUYS AUTONECT?

We provide a customised connected car experience to drivers, and the customers of servicing agents, car dealers, insurers and breakdown networks, each of whom contract with Autonect, and provide the plug-in hardware and software-download to the driver free of charge.

Q. I AM A DEVELOPER. DO YOU HAVE AN API/SDK SO I CAN DEVELOP AN APP THAT WORKS WITH AUTONECT?

Yes. Both will be made available for beta-testing shortly.

Q. DO YOU OFFER WHITE-LABEL SOLUTIONS TO LARGER CLIENTS?
